DIY Detox Mask

DIY Detox Mask

Why would you want to spend a fortune on products when you could do it simply at home?

That was the question that I asked myself. Yes, I have the advantage of my background and career in cosmetic science……and that has just become your advantage. I love sharing what I’ve learnt, and want to make life simpler for everyone.

There are some cosmetic products that are really difficult to make at home, and that shouldn’t be made as DIY products – such as sunscreen or make up. So those products aside – that gives us loads of incredible products we can make at home.

One of the easiest and most effective mask recipes I love sharing, is the Detox mask. This mask is beyond amazing.

The results are incredible, you feel the benefit immediately and even better – it costs you a fraction less to make at home, than buy a special product from the stores, or going to a salon for a deep detox cleansing facial.

Firstly, here is the easy recipe:

  • 5 disprins
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
  • few drops lemon juice

Side note:

  • Break the disprins up and mash into powder. The back of a teaspoon works well.
  • Add other dry ingredients and mix together.
  • Add a few drops of lemon juice. I prefer to squeeze fresh lemon, but lemon juice works just as well.
  • It will start fizzing and bubbling, just like a volcano about to explode.
  • Apply the mask onto clean skin, leave on for 10 – 15 min.
  • Use gentle circular massages to remove the mask with warm water. This helps exfoliate the skin.
  • This mask can be used 1 x week.

So, what is so special about this mask and why does it work so well?

The main ingredient is Disprin – which is actually Acetyl Salicylic Acid – that is the scientific name for Aspirin. This is where all the magic is. If you’ve ever checked the shelves and read some of the ingredients used in most problem skin products, or any exfoliating mask – it’s salicylic acid – which is basically what is in the disprin.

The issue with salicylic acid, it is very tricky to formulate with and can be tricky to make a stable product. The beauty when you make this mask – you are making it to use right away, so it takes all the tricky formulating issues away!

The next magic – baking soda – this is a very fine granule – it does not dissolve in water, or oil, so it stays on your skin and if you use small circular motions before washing the mask off – you will get the amazing exfoliating benefit. It is like having a microdermabrasion at home! Your skin will be super soft and smooth instantly. The other important benefit of the baking soda is that it helps to make the mask a better pH for your skin, so that you don’t irritate your skin with the acid in salicylic acid.

Then the lemon juice is loaded with vitamin c – which is always amazing for our skin, and it makes the mask into a paste so that it is easy to apply and leave on the skin.

As you can see, every ingredient has an incredible benefit, not only for the skin, but to make the actual product to.

The cost saving using this mask is incredible. The biggest cost is buying the pack of disprins – so what are you waiting for! Try this mask and never buy another overpriced product again.

Rather keep saving the money and buy the things you need to buy.
